Hi! I'm Kirsten
and this is my fertility website!
I've spent the last five years compiling
information for this website in hopes that it will help
other women on their conception journey. I began my
"trying
to conceive" journey December 2000 after my husband's vasectomy
reversal. We conceived in October 2001,
10 months after the surgery, but had a miscarriage
at 14 weeks. We conceived
again on Valentines Day 2003 but sadly miscarried
again at 12 weeks on April 28th, 2003. On September 19th, on
10dpo I got a faint line on a pregnancy test. Naturally, I was
only cautiously optimistic, but praise God, Olivia

and 20" long. My heart is so full. I was 37 years old when I had my sweet Olivia.
When I was 40 years old, I conceived again, but at my 9 week
ultrasound they found that the fetus had stopped developing at
6 weeks. Most likely chromosomal defects due to my age. I am
now 42 years old and just delivered my 5th little girl, Zoe.

USING HOME PREGNANCY TESTS
What you should know
Whether you are late for your cycle or you are a compulsive tester, there
is a good time and an unnecessary time to take an early pregnancy test. Implantation
of an embryo can occur as early as 6 days past conception and as late as
12 days past conception, 9 days being the average. Once implantation has
occurred, it takes 24-48 hours for hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) to
reach detectable levels. This said, hCG is detectible in urine by 8-14
days past conception by a sensitive hCG test. The average being 11 days
past ovulation. So taking a test prior to 8 days past ovulation will most
likely give you a negative regardless of your pregnancy status. Every
woman's body is different. Although this is rare, some women never
register a positive during pregnancy. I have gotten a positive as 8 days
past ovulation, but my last pregnancy registered positive in the evening
of 9 days ovulation. A blood test at 11dpo reveal 51miU of hCG, so it was
probably somewhere around 20miu on 9dpo. |

Did you know...
Green tea and it's negative effects on women trying to conceive and pregnant women:
I was shocked to read this in my Pregnancy Week by Week book!
I had no idea. Fortunately I didn't drink it at all in my
first trimester, but had an occasional cup in my second.
The researchers found that the anti-cancer compound in green tea, epigallocatechin gallate or EGCG, works by blocking the enzyme dihydrofolate reductase, which is essential to the growth of tumour cells. This mechanism is similar to that of the anti-cancer drug methotrexate, but EGCG has far fewer side effects. The findings appear in Cancer Research. >>read article>>
ARE YOU TRYING TO
CONCEIVE? Important
Information, I bet you didn't know: Capacitation of Sperm
Did you know that in
order to conceive, you must have intercourse during your
fertile time. You are most fertile a few days prior to ovulation
and up to 24 hours after ovulation. Although Sperm can live up to six days
in fertile quality cervical fluid aka cervical
mucus, it typically only lives about three days. The ovum
can live up to 24 hours but typically only lives up to 6-12 hours. If you are trying to
conceive, you are most likely to get pregnant 3 days prior to ovulation
and up to 6 hours after. It is important to time intercourse at least
12 hours before ovulation. Sperm usually reach the fallopian tube and the
egg within minutes after intercourse however, sperm need about 5-12 hours in
your uterus before they can fertilize the egg in a special process called capacitation.
This is the maturation process within the female reproductive tract by
which spermatozoa become capable of fertilization. That's why the best
time to make love is the day before and the day of ovulation Visit our Detecting
Ovulation page to best determine when you are most fertile.
